Word(s) of the Year 2019

House with snow

Happy New Year!

Its time for a new “Word of the Year”. I don’t do New Year’s Resolutions anymore. Too much pressure and disappointment when one can’t live up to impossible goals. I feel the benefits are far more rewarding with a word to reflect on positively during the year. You can read more about it on this blog post, Something Different for New Year’s Resolutions. Go ahead, I’ll wait while you check out that post 😉

Now that you’re all familiar with this tradition, I have to confess this is the first time ever I have chosen two words for the year. I tried, but I just couldn’t decide between the two, so ‘Journey’ and ‘Adventure’ ended up being the final choice(s). I am very excited to see how these words come into play this year.

So far, the year has started off with a whole bunch of snow and this has me hunkered down til it melts… or spring, whichever comes first. I’ve been spending a goodly amount of time shoveling snow and splitting wood for the fireplace/stove. A tree branch weighted down with too much snow snapped and is half hanging off the roof and is trying to take the rain gutter down with it. I’m getting a good reminder of what living with a lot of snow is like, and really this isn’t even ‘a lot’. I can’t tell you how many times people have repeated the question ” you sure you want to move to Alaska?” I instantly pull up my weather app and compare weather in UT and AK. Of course I want to move to AK; I’ve had enough desert to last me numerous lifetimes! I love winter, I love snow. What part of this is so hard to understand?

Anywho, since I’m snowbound, I’ve boxed up some books that I know will be going to Alaska with me. And begun bagging up clothes to be donated. I’m told nothing I have now will be appropriate for Alaska, not even my long johns will be the same up there. I have piles all over the house of things to sell, donate or giveaway. Yes the journey is still on. I am determined to get to AK this year…not sure how yet, but it’ll happen. My goal is to get a visit in before late summer.

Til now I will have to be satisfied with lurking in various Alaska Facebook groups and chatting with AK men on dating sites ðŸ˜³ did I say that? Its a story for another day,

Cindi
